Jeffrey Lipman

Jeffrey Lipman is Executive Director of the Burns Trauma and Critical Care Research Centre and Director of the Department of Intensive Care, Royal Brisbane Hospital, Professor of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care, University of Queensland and Honorary Professor, Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care, Chinese University of Hong Kong.
He received his medical degree from the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa and has qualifications in anaesthesia and intensive care. He set up — and was in charge of — a number of intensive care and trauma units in South Africa before moving to Australia in 1997.
Professor Lipman has authored or co-authored over 150 peer-reviewed publications and 14 book chapters; he has been invited to present at many national and international conferences, and is also a reviewer for 11 high-quality international journals and granting committees, including the National Health and Medical Research Council. He is involved with a large number of committees, including the Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Society clinical trials group. He is also site principal investigator for numerous multinational trials.
He is an internationally recognised expert in antibiotic usage in acute situations. His research interests include all aspects of infection management in intensive care and Professor Lipman has a special interest in the pharmacokinetics of antibiotic dosage, an area in which he recently completed his MD.
