John E McGowan Jr is Professor of Epidemiology at the Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia, USA. He is also Professor of Medicine (Infectious Diseases) and Associate Professor of Community Health (Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine) at Emory University School of Medicine.
Professor McGowan is a fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology, the American College of Epidemiology and the Infectious Diseases Society of America. He is currently an adviser to the Clincal and Laboratory Standards Institute (formerly the National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards) and has served on a number of other US committees concerned with infectious diseases and clinical microbiology.
Professor McGowan is a member of several journal editorial boards, including Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology, Emerging Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology and Infection. He has also published widely in the medical literature on the topics of antimicrobial resistance and its relationship to antimicrobial use. |
