Michael S Niederman
State University of New York, Stony Brook, New York, USA

Michael S Niederman is Professor of Medicine at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, New York, USA, where he has been involved in a clinical and investigative career focusing on respiratory infections.

Professor Niederman’s interests include the bacterial mechanisms of airway colonisation, particularly the role of adherence in the colonisation of airways of mechanically ventilated patients, and nosocomial pneumonia. He has also participated in a variety of clinical research projects, including antibiotic trials for respiratory infections.

Professor Niederman is the author of over 300 peer-reviewed articles or reviews on respiratory infections. He is also a co-editor of the first and second editions of the textbook Respiratory Infections: a Scientific Basis for Management, as well as editor-in-chief of Clinical Pulmonary Medicine. He serves on the editorial boards of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine and Chest, and is also a reviewer for various other journals.
