Norbert Suttorp

Norbert Suttorp is Professor and Chair of the Departments
of Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases and Intensive Care at Charité,
Humboldt University Medical Center, Berlin, Germany. Prior to this, he was
based at the Department of Internal Medicine, University of Giessen, Germany,
where he was awarded a professorship in 1993, funded by the German Science
Foundation. Professor Suttorp completed a medical degree at the University
of Münster and Giessen, Germany, before becoming a post-doctoral research
fellow at Stanford University Medical School, Palo Alto, California, USA.
Professor Suttorp is a member of the American Thoracic
Society (ATS), the New York Academy of Sciences and the American Society
for Microbiology (ASM). He is also a keen reviewer of several peer-reviewed
journals, including the American Journal of Physiology, Infection and Immunity,
the Journal of Clinical Investigation and the Journal of Immunology.
Professor Suttorp’s research interests include the
treatment of sepsis and pneumonia, pathogen–host interactions and host cell
signal transduction. To date, Professor Suttorp’s specialist research areas
of internal medicine, infectious diseases, intensive care and pneumology
have been the subject of over 80 prestigious peer-reviewed manuscripts that
he has either authored or co-authored.
