Treatment Guidelines

A new initiative for AIM, which arose as a direct request from the website users, is the formation of a repository of infection management guidelines. The first of these was the community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) guidelines repository, this document has now been updated and now includes links to society websites on actual guidelines.

This was followed by the hospital-acquired and ventilator-associated pneumonia (HAP/VAP) therapy guidelines. This month, the intra-abdominal guidelines repository has been added.

There are two tables for each infection area: the first lists the countries and corresponding societies that have produced guidelines; the second table provides more details from these guidelines, with an overview of recommended antibiotic therapies for the appropriate disease severity and/or specific pathogen.

The AIM core faculty sees this as a highly important source of information that will help you to administer antibiotics appropriately. This repository is an evolving resource that will be updated with further guidelines – including infection areas other than pneumonia – as they become available.
