AIM Activities at Congresses
2007
ECCMID, Munich (31 March–4 April 2007)
An AstraZeneca-sponsored infection management symposium, which was part of the official ECCMID programme, was a great success — attracting approximately 450 delegates and much positive feedback. The meeting featured a presentation on the latest European data on antibiotic resistance and its relevance to the clinician given by AIM faculty member Tobias Welte from Hanover, Germany. Professor Endre Ludwig from Budapest, Hungary presented data supporting the ‘right first time’ approach to the management of serious nosocomial infections.
Dr Jeff Lipman, Brisbane, Australia and Dr Robert Masterton, Kilmarnock, UK presented a new AIM case, which generated a lot of discussion and recently appeared on the AIM website ().
A total of 400 new members joined the AIM programme following visits to the AIM booth in the exhibition hall and we welcome them to the Academy, which now has nearly 9000 members worldwide.

The case for getting it right first time
in nosocomial infections
This interactive symposium examined
the importance of appropriate initial antimicrobial
therapy in the management of nosocomial infections.
A multidisciplinary panel of experts in infection management
– together with the audience – reviewed a case of a
patient with simple abdominal pain complicated by nosocomial
infection. Please find below a link to view the downloadable
case and the webcast from the symposium.
