José Garnacho-Montero

José Garnacho-Montero works in a 62-bed intensive care unit (ICU) at the Hospital Virgen del Rocio, a large urban hospital affiliated to the University of Seville, Spain. He is responsible for the ICU infection control plan and actively works with critically ill patients with sepsis. His principal research focus is on the optimal antimicrobial treatment of patients with sepsis as well as strategies targeted against nosocomial infections and resistant pathogens. In addition, he leads a research programme investigating genetic variations and the impact on mortality in severe sepsis and septic shock.
Dr Garnacho-Montero has participated in numerous trials of various antibiotics over a range of clinical conditions, as well as using different immunomodulatory strategies to reduce mortality resulting from severe sepsis.
A member of the editorial panel of two journals, Dr Garnacho-Montero is involved in reviewing manuscripts in prestigious journals that focus on infection and critical care. Currently, he is the national co-ordinator of the Infectious Disease Working Group of the Spanish Society of Intensive Care Medicine (SEMICYUC). |
